American Fugitive Arrested in Phuket on Texas Assault Warrant

Phuket Immigration police have arrested a 48-year-old American man wanted in Texas after US authorities alerted Thai officials to his presence in Thailand.

The man, identified only as Brad, was arrested outside his residence in Talad Nuea, Phuket, by a special operations team led by Acting Police Major Adisorn Boonchum of Phuket Immigration.

His permission to remain in Thailand had already been revoked under the country’s Immigration Act following a formal request from the US Embassy in Bangkok.

Brad is wanted in Texas over an allegation that he assaulted a family member by strangulation. A Texas court issued an arrest warrant in the case on May 26, 2022.

The suspect was reportedly using a US passport that had since been cancelled by American authorities. Immigration investigators confirmed his identity after he attempted to present only a photocopy of the document.

Officers informed him that his permission to stay in Thailand had been withdrawn and escorted him to Phuket Immigration headquarters, where he was informed of his legal rights.

He is currently being held while further legal proceedings are carried out and Thai authorities coordinate with US officials over the next steps, including possible extradition.
