Tourist Speedboat Destroyed by Fire in Phuket’s Ao Makham Bay

A tourist speedboat operated by Love Andaman was destroyed by fire while anchored in Ao Makham Bay on Phuket’s southern coast on May 10. Authorities and the company confirmed that no injuries were reported in the incident.

The vessel, named Juliet, caught fire at approximately 5:25 p.m. while moored in the bay near Cape Panwa. According to officials, the boat had already completed its scheduled tours for the day, and all crew members had gone ashore before the fire began.

No passengers or crew were on board at the time of the incident, and no nearby vessels were affected.

Emergency responders from the Phuket Provincial Administrative Organization (PPAO) arrived to battle the blaze. Firefighters spent around 20 minutes extinguishing the fire, but the boat was almost completely destroyed.

According to Phuket officials, only the fiberglass hull remained after the flames were brought under control.

The exact cause of the fire has not yet been determined. Investigators from Wichit Police Station, which oversees the Cape Panwa area, are leading the investigation together with forensic specialists.

In an official statement, Love Andaman said the company is fully cooperating with authorities and experts to establish the cause of the fire.

“The company is providing full assistance to Wichit Police and forensic investigators. The factual findings will be publicly announced once the investigation is complete, and proactive safety measures will be implemented based on the results,” the company said.

Love Andaman also confirmed that the loss of the vessel will not affect tours and scheduled trips planned for May 11.

The company’s decision to publicly address the incident was seen as an unusual level of transparency for Phuket’s tourism industry.

The fire involving the Juliet speedboat was at least the third marine fire incident reported in Ao Makham Bay since the beginning of 2026 and at least the fourth such incident in Phuket waters this year.
