Thailand’s Minister of Culture, Sabeeda Thaised, has praised the outstanding success of the Thailand Biennale held in Phuket, highlighting its major contribution to both the cultural and tourism sectors.

According to official figures, the event attracted more than 2.4 million visitors and generated over 28.9 billion baht in economic activity. This includes spending by international tourists, domestic travelers staying overnight, and day visitors, demonstrating the event’s broad appeal and economic reach.

The Minister emphasized that the Biennale has gained strong international recognition, with prominent media outlets such as The New York Times featuring Phuket as an emerging global center for art and culture. This growing visibility reflects Thailand’s expanding influence through cultural diplomacy and its “Soft Power” strategy.

Organized in collaboration with local authorities, the Biennale promotes the idea of “art transforming the city.” It brings together both Thai and international artists to create site-specific works across the island, blending contemporary art with Phuket’s heritage, identity, and community life.

Beyond enhancing Phuket’s reputation as a cultural destination, the event has also delivered real economic benefits at the local level. Small businesses, entrepreneurs, and community groups have all seen increased income as a result of the influx of visitors.

The Minister is expected to visit Phuket in early April to review the event’s progress, explore exhibitions, and engage with artists and organizers. Feedback from this visit will help shape and improve future editions of the Biennale.

As the current edition approaches its conclusion at the end of April, authorities are encouraging both residents and international visitors to experience its final highlights. Following Phuket’s successful hosting, the next Thailand Biennale will take place in Rayong, continuing the effort to expand contemporary art initiatives across the country.

The Minister concluded that the Biennale clearly demonstrates how art and culture can drive economic growth, support local communities, and strengthen Thailand’s global image. The government remains committed to further developing these cultural initiatives for long-term, sustainable impact.
