Phuket to Celebrate Second Ganesh Chaturthi Festival with Sacred Rituals and Processions

Phuket is set to host the Second Ganesh Chaturthi Festival from September 14 to 18, 2026, welcoming devotees and visitors to five days of religious ceremonies, cultural performances and colorful processions.

The festival is organized by the Shree Manta Ganapati Temple of Phuket and is dedicated to Lord Ganesha, the Hindu deity traditionally associated with the removal of obstacles. The program combines sacred rituals with cultural activities, offering both residents and visitors an opportunity to experience the traditions surrounding the celebration.

The festival will officially begin on Monday, September 14, with a procession carrying Lord Ganesha through the historic streets of Phuket Old Town. The parade will start at 5:30pm and feature traditional music, dance and devotional performances.

Earlier that day, organizers will hold ceremonies for the installation of Lord Ganesha’s idol, along with auspicious religious rites that will be open to devotees.

Festival programme

September 15, Tuesday: The day will begin with Atharvashirsha recitations dedicated to women, followed by consecration ceremonies continuing throughout the day.

September 16, Wednesday: Devotees will be able to participate in sacred rituals throughout the day. In the evening, the sacred drum ensemble will present a special performance of Mahakaal.

September 17, Thursday: Religious ceremonies will continue, accompanied by an offering of 56 traditional dishes known as Lappan Bhog and Vedic chanting.

September 18, Friday: The celebration will conclude with Ananta Chaturthi. Following the final consecration ceremonies, the idol of Lord Ganesha will be ceremonially immersed in the sea at Rawai Beach. The ritual symbolizes the deity’s return to Mount Kailash.

The Ganesh Chaturthi celebration has quickly become part of Phuket’s multicultural festival calendar, bringing Hindu religious traditions together with the island’s diverse cultural identity.

Organizers say the event is intended not only to strengthen community connections but also to give residents and tourists an opportunity to experience the religious and cultural traditions associated with the festival.
