Phuket joined the global celebration of World Blood Donor Day on June 14 with a series of special events aimed at recognizing blood donors and promoting voluntary blood donation across the island.

Commemorative donation drives were organized at the Phuket Regional Blood Centre (Phuket RBC) and at Limelight Phuket shopping mall, while an annual awards ceremony honoring outstanding donors and organizations supporting blood donation took place at The Pago Design Hotel.
Although the Phuket Red Cross and Vachira Phuket Hospital have not yet released official figures, organizers reported that hundreds of residents participated in the blood donation activities. Donors received commemorative T-shirts and various appreciation gifts as part of the celebration.

The formal ceremony in Phuket Town was presided over by Phuket Governor Nirut Pongsitthathorn. It was his first World Blood Donor Day event since assuming office late last year. Many long-time supporters of the island’s blood donation programs also attended the gathering.
Addressing participants, the governor expressed gratitude to regular donors for their ongoing contribution to public health.
“Every blood donor gives an invaluable gift to those in need — the gift of life. Blood donation reflects the willingness of people in society to help one another and share something that cannot be purchased with money,” he said.
During the event, recognition awards were presented to organizations that have actively supported blood donation initiatives in Phuket. Honorees included government agencies, educational institutions, healthcare providers, hotels, shopping centers, community organizations, and media outlets.

Special recognition was also given to dedicated donors who have donated blood numerous times over the years. Awards and commemorative gifts were presented to donors who reached milestones of 48, 64, 72, 84, 96, more than 100, and more than 200 blood donations.
Residents can donate blood throughout the week at both Phuket RBC and the blood bank at Vachira Phuket Hospital. In addition, both organizations regularly operate mobile blood donation campaigns across Phuket and neighboring areas to make participation more accessible.
