Phuket Holds Traditional Potor Ceremony to Honor Forgotten Souls

The Kusoldharm Foundation in Phuket has organized the second Tegrajad Potor ceremony of the year, continuing a long-standing tradition dedicated to honoring deceased individuals who have no relatives to care for their spirits.

The event was attended by Phuket Governor Chotnarin Kerdsom, Deputy Governor Romdon Hayiawa, government officials, and representatives from a range of public and private organizations.

Held twice each year, the Tegrajad Potor ceremony remains an important part of the island’s cultural and spiritual heritage. Participants gather to make offerings and perform religious rites believed to transfer merit to wandering souls, while also preserving traditions that have been passed down through generations.

Alongside the religious observances, this year’s event included a large charitable initiative. The Kusoldharm Foundation prepared and distributed 3,000 packages containing rice and dried food to local residents, combining community support with the spiritual purpose of the ceremony.

Organizers emphasized that the event serves a dual role: preserving ancestral customs while promoting compassion and social responsibility. By linking merit-making activities with charitable outreach, the ceremony helps strengthen community ties and keeps Phuket’s cultural traditions alive.

The foundation noted that such events continue to play an important role in fostering unity among local residents while ensuring that traditional beliefs and practices remain relevant for future generations.
