Phuket Blood Banks Urge Donations as Mobile Drives Continue in May

Residents of Phuket are being encouraged to take part in mobile blood donation drives throughout May, as local medical institutions work to replenish critically low supplies.

The regional blood center operated by the Thai Red Cross Society (Phuket RBC), together with the blood bank at Vachira Phuket Hospital, continues its campaign to secure sufficient blood for hospitals across the island. Medical staff report ongoing shortages across all blood types, with Rh-negative blood particularly scarce.

While there are no publicly available statistics on transfusion demand, road safety data highlights the growing need. Between January and April 2026, 58 people lost their lives in traffic accidents on the island—an increase of 175% compared to the same period last year. This trend is putting additional pressure on emergency medical services and blood reserves.

Unlike previous months, May’s campaign does not include special events tied to public holidays. However, larger awareness activities are expected in June, coinciding with celebrations marking the birthday of Queen Suthida and World Blood Donor Day.

Mobile donation units operated by Phuket RBC and Vachira Hospital will visit various locations across the island. In addition, residents can donate blood ежедневно at permanent donation centers located in Phuket Town, where both institutions continue to accept donors on a regular basis.
