Thailand Prepares for Four-Day Holiday Break in Early May

Thailand is heading into an extended holiday period at the beginning of May, with government offices operating for only four days this week, from April 27 to April 30.

From May 1 to May 4, the country will observe a four-day break running from Friday through Monday. Unlike some long weekends that are created by shifting official working days, this holiday stretch naturally aligns on the calendar without additional government adjustments.

The long weekend includes two official public holidays. May 1 marks Labour Day, while May 4 celebrates Coronation Day of Rama X. Both dates are recognized nationwide, meaning all government agencies will be closed.

As a result, key public offices such as the Immigration Bureau, Department of Employment, Land Department, and district offices will suspend operations during these days. Banking services will also be limited, as both May 1 and May 4 are listed as official bank holidays by the Bank of Thailand. Customers will only be able to access services at select branches located in shopping malls.

Schedules for Thai embassies and consulates abroad will vary depending on local regulations. For example, the consulate in Penang will remain closed on both Labour Day and Coronation Day. Meanwhile, the embassy in Moscow will observe closures on May 1, May 4, and May 11, the latter due to Victory Day. In Europe, some Thai diplomatic missions may also close on additional Catholic holidays, while in certain countries Labour Day is not observed as a public holiday.

Authorities note that extended holiday periods like this often encourage domestic travel, contributing to tourism activity across the country.
