Phuket is preparing to host an unprecedented cultural event: the island’s first nighttime procession of deities, known locally as “แหมสี อิ้วเก้ง” (Am Ming Si Iu Keng), meaning a procession held at night. Organized by the Phuket Shrine Association, the event is expected to bring together representatives of 40 shrines from across the island

The procession is scheduled for Sunday, October 11, 2026, beginning at 8pm at Saphan Hin. From there, participants will move through Phuket Town’s municipal area, accompanied by the sound of firecrackers, glowing lanterns and worshippers dressed in white.

The nighttime ceremony will form part of Phuket’s celebrated Vegetarian Festival while introducing a new element to the island’s cultural traditions. Devotees are expected to carry sacred palanquins through the streets under the night sky, creating a procession that combines religious observance with a shared sense of community.

Participants and visitors are encouraged to wear white, a traditional symbol of purity and devotion. The event also offers an opportunity to photograph a rare occasion in Phuket’s cultural calendar.

With 40 shrines expected to take part, the procession will bring together religious communities, families and different generations in a public expression of faith and local heritage.
