Phuket authorities have stepped up emergency preparedness as heavy to very heavy rainfall is forecast across the province from October 9 to 13, 2026. Officials are warning of possible flash floods, sudden runoff from mountainous areas, mudslides and rough seas.

The Phuket Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Command announced the heightened readiness in response to a weather advisory issued by the Thai Meteorological Department. Relevant agencies have been instructed to monitor conditions closely and prepare emergency measures for potential flooding and strong waves, particularly in coastal and low-lying areas.

According to the department’s announcement on October 7, unsettled weather is expected across Thailand from October 4 to 13. Forecast conditions include thunderstorms, gusty winds and heavy to very heavy rain in some areas, with southern Thailand expected to experience particularly significant impacts.

The weather pattern is being driven by several factors: a cold air mass moving from China over upper Thailand, a monsoon trough extending across the upper South, and the continuing southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea.

The combined conditions are also expected to produce waves exceeding two metres in the Andaman Sea, especially in areas affected by thunderstorms.

Authorities are urging residents and visitors to follow official weather updates and avoid travelling through flood-prone areas or mountainous terrain during periods of intense rainfall. People living in coastal communities are also advised to remain alert to changing sea conditions and follow any safety instructions or evacuation guidance issued by officials.
