Police in Phuket seized a significant quantity of methamphetamine during a late-night checkpoint operation on March 24, 2026.

Officers stationed at the Tha Chatchai checkpoint stopped a red Mazda 3 sedan and uncovered 2,967 methamphetamine pills hidden inside the vehicle’s engine compartment.
The operation was led by senior officers from Tha Chatchai Police Station, resulting in the arrest of two suspects from Ao Luek district in Krabi province.
During the inspection, authorities discovered the drugs — commonly known as yaba — concealed within the engine area of the car. The attempt to hide the narcotics in this way suggests efforts to avoid routine detection at checkpoints.
Police seized all 2,967 pills along with the vehicle as evidence.
The two suspects were detained at the scene, informed of their legal rights, and formally charged. They were then taken to Tha Chatchai Police Station for further investigation and legal proceedings.
Authorities have not yet disclosed additional details about the suspects or whether they are linked to a wider drug network.
